After 25 years experience for the presenter of this item, it’s now time to look back at the developments in sound level management at large events, mostly outdoor. It started for me in 1998 with 1 measurement point in the surroundings of a large festival, now it has developed to an internet based measurement network with permanent source and receiver information stored in the cloud and correlation techniques. Measurement techniques developed together with the festivals, but also local and national regulations followed the growth of festivals. Regulations came along, both for the ears of the audience and at the neighbours place. The main questions will be answered, like where did the regulations came from? Where are we now in 2024? And when did the audiologists came in? And what’s gonna happen in the near future between acousticians, festival promoters and audiologists?
